Sigourney Weaver & Buster Poindexter do “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” on SNL

I’ve been looking for this for years!  A 1986 episode of Saturday Night Live featuring Sigourney Weaver singing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with Buster Poindexter, the former head of the SNL Band.  My favorite version of this Christmas classic.  This was also the episode that featured “Alienses” and Weaver’s 8 minute version of the opera “The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahgonny.”

“Buster Poindexter, the former head of the SNL Band.”?? His real name is David Johansen, and you need cite a source that says he was ever even in the band, let alone head. This song was done in 1986; keyboardist Cheryl Hardwick co-directed the band with G. E. Smith from 1985 until 1995. Howard Shore served as the original band leader and musical director from 1975 until 1980. There have been various other leaders of teh SNL band, but not Buster, aka David.

My error on him leading the band. David Johansen was a member of the band for one year, according to his IMDB bio.

  4. Michael Bowe says:

David Johansen was in the SNL band? He was lead singer of the New York Dolls and fronted the David Johansen Group. (Funky But Chic). During the 80s he was Buster Poindexter (Hot Hot Hot). He’s the cabbie in Scrooged.
